Right side weakness

Pytanie

Is it common for children with CdLS to have one side of their body affected differently than the other. Our three-year-old daughter has noticeable weakness of her right hand/arm and leg/foot, her right eye is patched, sinus x-rays showed abnormalities that indicate perhaps her right sinus never developed fully, and ureter reflux on right side? We are considering pursuing testing but would not do if associated to CdLS. If we do, what tests should we have done?

No, this is not typical or known to be associated with CdLS and further evaluation should be pursued.

RESPONSE: I have heard of a few patients with CdLS who have had weakness more on one side of their body than the other. I have not heard specifically of the same side also having eye, sinus and ureteral problems. I would say that this is not typical, and would recommend further testing, most likely any specific testing that the physician would normally recommend. This might include an MRI of the brain to see if there is marked asymmetry between the two sides (which might also show eye or sinus differences), and a voiding cystourethrogram to the ureteral function, as well as a renal (kidney) ultrasound (to check for any kidney abnormality) and a renal scan (to check function).
