Brittle bones

Pytanie

Are brittle bones subject to fractures a part of the syndrome?

Odpowiedź naszych ekspertów

Although brittle bones and fractures are not typically part of CdLS, it does appear that osteopenia (thinning of bones) or osteoporosis may be a factor as individuals with CdLS get older. If this is severe enough, fractures can occur. We have been recommending bone densitometry to assess this, and some hormonal studies, depending on the sex of the individual. Especially when the patient is younger, however, would make sure that there has been no physical abuse or other trauma causing this.
