Medications - Seizures

Spørgsmål

My 5-year-old patient with CdLS has recently developed seizures. The child was placed on Depakene; breakthrough seizures developed. We tried 25 mg daily of Zonegram; seizures continued. Then we increased medication to 25 mg two times per day. Blood levels will be checked in two weeks. Any suggestions on seizure treatment in children who have CdLS?

Svar fra vores eksperter

Most of the seizures in this condition are focal or multifocal in origin, meaning that a medication like Zonegran has a chance to work, but others can also be used (including Topamax, Trileptal, perhaps Keppra) - but the choice also depends on the clinical types of seizures and the EEG. It is always a good idea to stick to one medication and increase the dose until either seizures are controlled or side effects occur

R47
Seizures in individuals with CdLS should be treated using the general management schemes.
R48
An MRI of the brain should be considered only if the individual with CdLS shows neurological signs other than microcephaly (smaller than normal head).
