Weight Gain

Question

Our 31-year-old daughter recently has been gaining weight and is now too heavy for me to bring home, as I can't move her. She lives in a group home and is on a specific light diet, but still continues to gain weight. Is this part of this syndrome and how can it best be controlled? It's becoming increasingly difficult for her to do weight bearing therapy because of this weight.

Answer of our experts

We do not know if weight gain in older females with CdLS is part of the syndrome; this has been seen repeatedly. We are trying to investigate potential causes medically. I would recommend that her doctors check several things: cortisol, thyroid function tests, insulin level, an accurate calorie count, and also make sure that she is getting some exercise. It might be helpful for an assessment by a dietician to evaluate her calories and diet.
